Description
The Pennsylvania Association of Career and Technical Administrators has received approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer a Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) program for administrators entitled Increasing Student Achievement by Utilizing the Standards Aligned Systems (SAS) to Integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) into Career and Technical Education. The purpose of this PIL program is to provide Career and Technical Center leaders with the knowledge and skills to work with teachers to improve the achievement of Career and Technical Education (CTE) students on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Standards through curriculum integration with Career and Technical Education.
The 40-hour program will include 15 hours of instruction during October 18 and 19 session, 21 hours of job-embedded assignments, and a final four hour culminating session. The program will incorporate on-line technical assistance at www.pactatopics.org to participants throughout the program. The program is designed to provide participants with the skills to utilize the Standards Aligned System (SAS) to integrate STEM competencies into CTE that will result in improved CTE student achievement on the STEM Standards and on end-of-course occupational assessments.
The SAS/STEM curricular concepts covered in this program will be aligned with the PA Chapter 339 requirements for Career and Technical Education, the Perkins IV requirements for data analysis, program improvement, and the Pennsylvania Standards for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. Additionally, the program will address how SAS can be integrated into Career and Technical Education.
Participants will develop an understanding of the Pennsylvania SAS and STEM. Additionally, participants will participate in multiple discussions and creative sessions to utilize SAS and STEM to create integrated learning modules for selected CTE areas. Participants will learn how to create activities, projects, and problems as components of learning modules that integrate STEM into CTE. At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to: demonstrate a complete understanding of the SAS; demonstrate a complete understanding of the STEM standards; develop strategies for applying SAS to CTE; develop strategies for linking CTE curriculum to STEM standards through activities, projects, or problems; complete all components of the STEM/CTE Learning Module; conduct an evaluation of STEM/CTE Learning Modules; and use assessment data to identify student achievement of CTE and STEM standards though the Learning Modules.
