At the current time, a vacancy exists for a full-time Small Engine Repair Instructor within the Student Services division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit, located at the Learning Center in Coatesville, PA. This position will begin in the 2020-2021 school year.
Qualifications:
• Possess valid Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational I or II Certificate in area of Small Engine Repair, OR be willing to enroll in a PDE approved certification program to obtain one upon hire; required
• Possess appropriate industry certifications related to small engine repair, OR have successfully completed appropriate Occupational Competency Assessment; required
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of small engine repair; required
• Experience working with secondary students in need of additional emotional/behavioral support; preferred
• Current child abuse, criminal history and FBI fingerprint clearances; required
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide quality occupational instruction to secondary pre-vocational students to prepare them with employability skills regardless of their physical or mental ability.
• Program development; maintain and modify curriculum to remain current.
• Maintain and practice an effective safety program within the curriculum.
• Effective supervision of all students at the CCIU Learning Center.
• Contribute to students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Maintain student data, including progress monitoring of IEP goals, student grades, and behavior write-ups in student data system.
• Maintenance of appropriate professional certificates and licenses as required.
• Other assignments as requested by the principal or designee.
Salary 2020-2021 School Year:
$49,559 to $81,214 - Emergency/Intern Certification (Industry experience, but no Instructional Certification)
$51,181 to $83,466 - Instructional I/ Vocational I Certification
$53,464 to $86,855 - Instructional II/Vocational II Certification
$56,949 to $94,953 - Masters Degree
$60,793 to $100,548 - Masters + 30
Schedule:
10-month, school-year (194 days/year); Monday- Friday; 7.5 hrs/day; 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM

The Learning Center is a middle school/high school that serves students ages 13-21 that have been unsuccessful in their home districts. All of the students that attend the Learning Center have IEPs. There are 2 main programs within the Learning Center:
Options/Options Plus:
The Options Program works with students experiencing mental health issues who demonstrate an interest and desire to learn but who are reluctant to receive mental health services.
These students are provided the skills to work cooperatively with their peers. They learn to deal with everyday issues at their ability level and the educational staff provides individual attention, both when dealing with the academics and behaviors.
Students in the Options program may need assistance to develop strategies to help:
• Manage their behavior
• Meet learning objectives
• Maintain emotional stability
• Accept mental health services
• Overcome drug and alcohol issues
Career Academy:
The typical day for a Career Academy student is split between a half-day in academic classes and a half-day in their pre-vocational shop program. The Career Academy offers a variety of pre-vocational classroom options, taught by very experienced teachers. Pre-vocational classroom options include culinary, cosmetology, technology shop, hospitality, small engine repair, automotive shop, carpentry, horticulture, and exploratory/project shop.
