POSITION TITLE: NETWORK ENGINEER

 

REPORTS TO:         ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR

 

TYPE:                        ACT 93

 

WORK YEAR:         12 MONTH   (Immediate Opening)

 

JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTABILITY:  Responsible for the network infrastructure, hardware, and connections, including the design and deployment of new/updated network services. Provide technical support, training and troubleshooting; support networks, network connections, and managed services.  Supervising IT Department technical staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor degree (preferred) in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus; at least 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess industry recognized related certifications, excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Windows Server and networking

• Server hardware and software

• Switching, Routing and Wireless Systems

• System integration

• Project management

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations, including data, voice (VoiP), videos and wireless network services

• Establishing networking environment by designing system configuration and directing system installation

• Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP

• Performing network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations

• Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks

• Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required

• Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures

• Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems

 • Monitoring and reporting network performance

• Defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards

• Maximizing performance by troubleshooting network problems and outages and scheduling upgrades

• Designing, configuring and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software

• Managing physical and logical access to organization data centers, network equipment, and connection points

• Providing technical support for enterprise systems and networks

• Managing and coordinating schoolwide cabling and wiring projects

• Managing and coordinating cabling and wiring projects at all district locations

• Assisting with the creation and execution of technical bids and service contracts

• Serving as liaison with technical vendors, contractors, consultants, and service providers

• Coordinating and maintaining directory services (Active Directory)

• Providing on-site and remote technical support; providing emergency on-call support for on-site and remote technical issues as needed

• Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases

• Additional duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
