Director of Transportation Technologies

The Lancaster County Career and Technology Center is seeking a Director of Transportation Technologies who will be responsible for supervising and directing the operations of the Transportation Division of adult education.


Essential Responsibilities: 


•             Develop and maintain program viability and visibility by recruiting and enrolling students through contacts made at industry, through agencies, and through promotions to the public

•             Evaluate the effectiveness of the instruction by observing instructor performance and by evaluating the resulting skills and knowledge displayed by students

•             Oversee, Manage and conduct hands-on CDL testing so that students may obtain licensure

•             Provide customized training in industry by conducting regular needs assessments and designing and delivering training to meet needs

•             Ensure contractual, financial, and performance standards that complies with state and federal regulatory requirements

•             Monitor and make arrangements for equipment maintenance and equipment purchases in order to ensure that the equipment is safe and that the vehicles match industry need

•             Manage the Driver’s Ed program to ensure all operations run smoothly.

•             Manage the recruiting process for prospective students.

•             CDL Test Site Supervisor to maintain quarterly audits, scheduling tests, and supervise random tests

•             Ensure all PennDot paperwork is correct and in order per PennDot standards



•             Fill in when needed to ensure training is performed at optimal levels.

•             Coach students in developing employability skills by providing the counsel and modeling the process necessary to be a competent truck driver

•             Ensure proper management and instruction for the students.



Supervisory Responsibilities:


•             Supervise, mentor, and develop direct reports

•             Observe and evaluate direct reports on a regular basis

•             Evaluate and anticipate knowledge and skill needs and insure appropriate staffing levels to meet them

Education & Experience Required:


  • High School Diploma
  • Business or trade schoolto meet program requirements
  • 5-8 years of experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Extensive training and development skills
  • Marketing and sales skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid PA Driver’s License, CDL A with Endorsements, current medical card
  • Certified Tester


The individual hired as the Director of Transportation Technologies must meet the following conditions and qualifications:

1.            Five years of satisfactory or better experience is preferred in the Trucking Industry, ideally including training, supervision and marketing.   Applicants may be asked to provide their performance evaluations for the most recent two-year period.  Satisfactory service will be deemed to exist if, and only if, the overall evaluation is at least satisfactory and there are no individual areas noted to be unsatisfactory, deficient or in need of improvement.

2.            Demonstrated ability to conduct and facilitate instruction to adult students, develop curriculum and manage program funding.

3.            Must maintain a valid CDL license with endorsements (DBLS, tankers… etc) and current Medical Card.

4.            Must submit to regular Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals and random drug and alcohol screens.

5.            Must maintain a clean 10 year MVR (motor vehicle record).

6.            Must meet all legal requirements, submit all clearances required by the PA School Code and as established by law.

7.            Ability to safely operate any of the Class “A” vehicles in fleet.

8.            Eligibility to become CDL Class A 3rd party tester/examiner or existing CDL Class A 3rd party tester/examiner in PA.
