Position Title: Computer Programming/Programmer, Instructor

Location: Erie High School

Position Summary/Goal: An instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to support the design and development of software applications. This program is designed to provide the capacity to prepare and interpret process and data models, develop and structure software components and to validate the functionality, usability, and reliability of those components. Validation skills include testing and debugging. System, component and user documentation is to be performed throughout the process. This program will provide students with the ability to integrate new and existing components. Students will receive instruction in at least two programming languages including at least one procedure-oriented language and one object and visually-oriented language. This course provides a thorough practical knowledge of the concepts, theories, logic and critical thinking skills required when building software applications. Students completing the program will possess a basic technical foundation needed to pursue postsecondary degrees leading to a career as a software developer, analyst project leader or in the management of information technologies. Students may prefer to immediately enter the labor market in an entry-level position as developer or analyst.

Term of Employment: Teacher Contract/Flex Hours

Salary: per teacher contract
Reporting Relationship: Director of CTE

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Candidate must have a 4 years full time experience in the field within the last 10 years
• Must be willing to earn teacher certification in vocational education at Indiana University of PA.

Education and Experience:

• Industry certifications may include Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Entry Networking Technician (CCENT), Design Associate (CCDA), A+, Network +, Server +, Security +, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) Oracle Certification (path based product), Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
• Work experience in computer programming

• Working knowledge of C# [C-sharp] and C++ [C plus plus], HTML and PHP languages
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with educators, students, parents and larger community
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be highly organized

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Promote positive working relationships
• Implement a curriculum that fosters all areas of skill development
• Use appropriate and effective teaching approaches
• Provide ongoing assessments of student progress
• Establish and maintain relationships
• Use resources of the community
• Provide a safe and healthy learning environment
• Integrate academic skills and aptitudes necessary for postsecondary education, gainful employment and a foundation of lifelong learning
 Physical requirements are similar to those in an IT setting
 Lab environment with equipment and theory room for practical application. Must have the ability to work with youth and to motivate them for careers in computer programming

Evaluation: Conducted annually by Director of CTE
